Sometimes things happen in life that are completely out of your control but these events always set you on a new path.  Well, that’s what I have found anyway!

From a young age I have always been interested in the ‘alternatives’ – anything that was not the ‘norm’.  Massage, aromatherapy, homeopathy,  the universe, healing and crystals just to name a few.

​

I dabbled here and there – buying beautiful crystals because they made me feel good, seeing a spiritualist because I wanted that message that was going to prove there was an afterlife.  Somehow life got in the way.  I started my career, fell in love, married and had children.  During this time I came back to alternative therapies and practiced massage, aromatherapy, homeopathy and crystal healing on my family and friends.  I even began using Feng Shui around the home, which is really fascinating stuff!

As the kids grew and became more independent I returned to full time work, my career took off and I became the Communications & Marketing Director for a well-known global company and I loved it.   During this 12 year working period I was faced with a number of 'life-changing' events; menopause, divorce and redundancy. 

 

The menopause came early and was quite disruptive, as it affected my day-to-day living, physically as well as emotionally.  I made a personal decision to follow the homeopathic route rather than traditional medication and I'm happy to say that it worked for me.

Four years later, my marriage ended abruptly.  This set me on a new and a very unexpected adventure.   Now a single mum of two, I suddenly had to face the fact that my planned life's journey was suddenly changing and I had to adapt to becoming a single entity rather than being one half of a couple and believe me after 22 years there are many differences!  It did take a while but I got there in the end with the help of my wonderful children, family and close friends.

Four years later I was unexpectedly made redundant.  I know... is this my unlucky or lucky number?  I suppose it depends on how you view it.  Once again, a constant in my life was whipped away, which now set me on another new path.

​

I took some time out and thought that this was the perfect time to change my life’s direction and to finally begin my spiritual journey into holistic therapies.

​

I had always been interested in Reiki but had never had the time to pursue it professionally.  I researched Reiki Masters in my area and found someone whose career had originally been in engineering and this is the person I chose to sign up with to gain my Reiki qualifications.  On my first course I was amazed at the health benefits Reiki could give me, as well as other people.  As soon as I was able, I put myself through the remainder of courses and finally qualified as a Reiki Master/Teacher in Usui Traditional Reiki and the relatively new version of Holy Fire Reiki.  I have found the whole journey enlightening and have met some truly wonderful people along the way.  Every day brings new experiences and it makes me feel very humble and blessed when I receive feedback from a client to say that their treatment has helped with a physical or emotional problem.

I have been very busy lately getting involved in Reiki on a different level.  I recently spent some time on the management committee of The UK Reiki Federation as Marketing Strategist, I have just been accepted as a registered Reiki practitioner with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and have also been accepted as a volunteer to offer Reiki to our NHS medics via the Reiki Medic-care initiative.  So, busy times but worth every minute to bring Reiki to as many people as possible.

We are all on a journey and some of us will be faced with more challenges than others but it’s never too late to follow your dream.
